FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WAYNE TROYER ELEVATED TO AIA’s COLLEGE OF FELLOWS

New Orleans, Louisiana, February 10, 2017 – Award-winning architecture firm studioWTA is proud to announce induction of its founder, Wayne Troyer, into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Membership in the College is AIA’s most prestigious honor, and is bestowed upon member architects who have made outstanding contributions to architecture and society through design excellence and advocacy. The honor is signified by “FAIA” as seen after an architect’s name.

A native of New Orleans, Troyer holds a Master of Architecture degree from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Loyola University. Before founding studioWTA in 1992, he led the design of the Contemporary Arts Center. Troyer’s passion for innovative design has garnered numerous awards from the AIA (at national, regional, state, and local levels), the Louisiana Landmarks Society, the Vieux Carré Commission, and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Troyer is a past recipient of a Design Arts Fellowship from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, and was a Sweet Arts Ball Honoree for “sustained and lasting contributions to the arts in Louisiana.” Troyer was a major figure in the rebuilding of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina: He was a member of the Bring New Orleans Back Commission, participated in the Unified New Orleans Plan, and designed the award-winning outreach facility Fr. Henry Thompson Center, which works to help the city’s transient population. He currently serves on the Architectural Review Committee and is a commissioner for the Historic District Landmarks Commission. Creative problem solving, craft of construction, innovative design solutions, and sensitivity to the unique architecture of New Orleans can be seen in Troyer’s projects across the city, including the John P. Isché Library Commons at the LSU Health Sciences Center, Wall Residential College and PJ’s Coffee at Tulane University, Arthur Roger@434 gallery, the Rice Mill Lofts, and 5940 Magazine.

In addition to his professional service, Troyer has taught architecture and design studios at Tulane University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Arkansas, and is regular guest critic on student reviews. He serves on the board of trustees for the Contemporary Arts Center. He has previously served on the boards of the Preservation Resource Center, the New Orleans Film Society, and the New Orleans chapter of the international preservation association do.co.mo.mo.
